18-year-old dead, bystander injured in shooting at north Phoenix strip mall

PHOENIX — Police say an 18-year-old man is dead and a woman is hurt after a shooting at a strip mall in north Phoenix Saturday afternoon.

Police were called around 4:15 p.m. for a report of a shooting at the strip mall near 19th Avenue and Bell Road.

A juvenile in his late teens was arrested and booked on Monday and faces multiple felony charges that could include second-degree murder, according to Phoenix police.

Officers found 18-year-old Miguel Rosas on the ground with multiple gunshot wounds, he was pronounced dead the scene.

Officers were also directed to a woman inside one of the businesses who had been struck by gunfire. She was taken to the hospital with a non-life-threatening injury.

Police conducted an air and ground search of the area and detained three people in connection with the shooting. They were all interviewed and released.

Phoenix police believe there was an exchange of gunfire between a few individuals in the strip mall parking lot, and that Rosas was an intended target. They added that the woman struck wasn't involved and was hit by reckless gunfire.

Police continue to investigate, and they have not released any information on possible suspects.
