PHOENIX — A 58-year-old man was struck and killed by an allegedly impaired driver near 35th and Northern Avenues on Friday night, according to Phoenix Police.
Police say Sam Veazey, 58, was crossing the roadway mid-block near 35th and Northern Avenues around 9 p.m. when he was hit by a 26-year-old man traveling westbound in a 1999 Pontiac Montana Van.
Veazey was transported to an area hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
According to police, the 26-year-old driver did not see Veazey and was "unable to avoid the collision."
The 26-year-old was evaluated by police following the deadly collision, and it was determined he was impaired.
The driver was processed for a DUI. He and his 25-year-old passenger were not injured.
