PHOENIX — A 54-year-old man is dead after being hit by a pickup truck near 21st Avenue and Bell Road Saturday night.
According to Phoenix police, a 28-year-old man was driving westbound on the curb lane of Bell Road when he struck the pedestrian, who he told police he did not see "until just before colliding with him."
"The driver of the pickup was unsure where the pedestrian came from or what direction he was going before the impact," Sgt. Tommy Thompson with the Phoenix Police Department said.
The pedestrian, 54-year-old Manuel Araiza, was taken to an area hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
Police say the 28-year-old driver remained on scene and was not impaired at the time of the fatal crash.
