A student has been detained after allegedly bringing a gun to a high school campus.

Phoenix police said at noon on Tuesday they received information that a student was reportedly armed at North Canyon High School.

School staff members called police who responded and arrived on the campus.

Officers were able to contact the student on campus and he cooperated. The student was able to direct officers to the location of the firearm and he was detained.

According to police, it appears the student did not intend to harm anyone on campus.

A representative from the Paradise Valley Unified School District released a statement, which read in part:

"At Paradise Valley Unified School District (PVSchools), our first priority is for the safety and well-being of our students and staff. We take all incidents and any reported allegations seriously and work in cooperation with law enforcement on all police matters.

First and foremost, we want to let you know that our students and staff members on the North Canyon High School campus are safe."
