Phoenix police said they closed a major intersection Monday night after an armed man refused to surrender following a shoplifting incident at a Fry's Electronics store.
Officers at Thunderbird Road and 30th Avenue told ABC15 that they shut down the area after a man locked himself in his van in the parking lot and threatened to harm himself.
"We are attempting to safely contact someone who is a danger to himself and others," Phoenix police spokesman Vincent Lewis said.
Lewis later said that the man surrendered to police and was taken into custody. No injuries were reported.
