Authorities say at least one person is dead stemming from a crash involving two cars in north Phoenix.

Around 11 a.m. Sunday, police responded to the area of 7th Street and Cave Creek Road after receiving reports of a crash in the area.

According to a police spokesman, it was initially reported that one 65-year-old man was hospitalized with extremely serious injuries. Police said the man was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

The vehicle that the man was driving reportedly crossed the center line while driving southbound on 7th Street and struck a second vehicle turning onto 7th Street from Cave Creek Road.

A 29-year-old man and a 32-year-old woman in the second car were taken to the hospital in critical condition but are expected to survive, police said.

Impairment is not considered a factor in the crash, according to investigators.

During the investigation, 7th Street is shut down south of Cave Creek Road. Northbound 7th Street is closed from Dunlap Avenue to Cave Creek Road and southbound from Mission Lane to Cave Creek Road.

Drivers are urged to avoid the area. Check here for the latest traffic updates.
