Police say a 15-year-old boy has died in a crash involving excessive speed Tuesday afternoon in north Phoenix.
The crash happened around 2:30 p.m. on Cave Creek Road, north of Cactus Road.
According to Phoenix police, a gray Infinity G35 driven by a 17-year-old male was going southbound on Cave Creek Road at an excessive speed before it lost control and crossed the center.
The Infinity then struck a gray Expedition SUV that was heading northbound, police said.
The 17-year-old driver of the Infinity was transported to a hospital in extremely critical condition, according to police. The 15-year-old boy who died was his front passenger.
Police aren't ready to identify the victim, but his friends tell ABC15 they saw Hector Flores leave school for the day not realizing it would be the last time they see his smile.

The driver of the Expedition was the only person in that vehicle and was not transported, police said.
Cave Creek Road was closed in both directions from Clair Drive to Sharon into the night for several hours while crews worked to clear the scene.
