PHOENIX — Phoenix police say a dirt bike rider involved in a collision with a patrol car Wednesday night has died.
The crash happened around 6 p.m. near 39th and Sweetwater avenues.
Police say the dirt bike rider was headed eastbound when he collided with a marked Phoenix Police Department Tahoe turning left.
The rider, identified as 32-year-old Antwon Brant, was also not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. He was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The dirt bike was reportedly not licensed for road use and did not have a headlight.
Brant's friends say he was a dependable person devoted to them and his family. They will be holding a vigil Thursday night.
The officer involved in the crash has reportedly been on the police force for 10 years.
