Officials are investigating after two motorcyclists were involved in a crash involving fire in Phoenix.

The crash happened near 43rd Avenue and Peoria Avenue around 2:00 a.m. on Friday.

Phoenix police said two motorcyclists were traveling southbound on 43rd Avenue when one of the riders attempted to turn onto Vogel Avenue and the bikes collided.

One motorcyclist was transported to the hospital in extremely critical condition with burns to over 50 percent of his body. The second rider was transported in serious condition.

A passerby saw the crash and was able to get the fire out with a fire extinguisher.

Police believe the gas cap came off one of the motorcycles and caused the fire.
