Phoenix police responded to the area of 19th Avenue and Cactus Road Tuesday evening after a vendor was assaulted during a robbery.

Officials said the corn vendor was hit on the head with a handgun shortly before 8 p.m. The suspect took off with about $100 after assaulting the man and firing a shot into the ground.

The victim was unable to get a good description of the suspect, but police at the scene say the suspect was a black man with a thin build.
