PHOENIX — Phoenix police are investigating a deadly crash that happened Thursday near 35th Avenue and Buckeye Road.
Police officials say an SUV was traveling south on 35th Avenue and failed to stop at a red light when it hit a small compact vehicle that was heading west on Buckeye Road.
The impact caused both vehicles to hit a traffic signal pole and a water control box.
Officers say 20-year-old Jared Carillo, the driver of the compact vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to investigators, the driver of the SUV, identified as a 27-year-old man, showed signs of impairment.
Results from a toxicology are pending and police say charges may be filed once those results are in.
The investigation is ongoing.
