PHOENIX — Phoenix police arrested a dozen people during a demonstration of solidarity for the anniversary of the March on Washington.
Sgt. Ann Justus with the Phoenix Police Department said the Friday night protest that drew dozens of people and was peaceful overall.
Demonstrators listened to speeches in downtown and then marched to Phoenix PD headquarters.
Officials say at the end of the march, some protesters chose to lay in the road, forcing officers to shut it down to traffic.
Those who refused to get up were subsequently arrested. In all, 12 arrests were made.
They all face one count each of obstructing a thoroughfare and two were also arrested based on probable cause from previous nights of demonstrations.
Phoenix police also say no munitions were deployed and there were no injuries reported.
