PHOENIX — Phoenix Fire crews rescued a hiker and a horse off of South Mountain at the Summit Trail Sunday afternoon.
Officials say a man in his 50's was found off the trail after his horse threw him to the ground while slipping on granite rocks.
Crews say they used ropes and a pulley system to lower the man down to an ambulance to transport him to a nearby hospital.
The man suffered multiple lacerations and a possible broken wrist as a result of the incident.
The horse was found okay and only suffered a minor cut after the fall.
