PHOENIX — One person is in "extremely critical condition" and another is injured after a head-on collision at 23rd Avenue and Southern.
Following the crash, Southern Avenue eastbound and westbound between 27th and 23rd avenues will be closed until 12 p.m., according to Phoenix police. Officials are advising drivers to avoid the area.

According to Phoenix Fire Department officials, a male in his mid-to-late 20s was transported to an area hospital in extremely critical condition following the Thursday morning crash.
A woman believed to be in her 60s was also transported to a local trauma facility, fire officials said.
The cause of the crash is currently unknown. An investigation into the crash will be conducted by Phoenix Police.
