PD: Man struck, killed at 32nd Street and Southern Avenue

PHOENIX — A man died after being struck by a car as he wandered into the roadway in south Phoenix early Sunday morning.

According to Phoenix police, the 26-year-old man was struck and killed by a car at 32nd Street and Southern Avenue around 12:30 a.m.

A witness told police the pedestrian, later identified as Sheldon Begay, was "walking and stumbling in and out of the roadway."

The witness told police they tried to warn Begay, but Begay reportedly ran into the road and was struck by a car.

Begay was pronounced dead on the scene by members of the Phoenix Fire Department.

Police say the driver remained on scene and "showed no signs of impairment."

No charges are expected, police say.
