Police have arrested a man who confessed to the armed robbery and deadly shooting of a 7-Eleven clerk earlier this month."
According to the Phoenix Police Department, Joseph Fatigoni, 23, was booked into jail in connection with the homicide of Amanjeet Singh Toor on August 8.
The suspect was fully covered head to toe - hands and face," explained Sgt. Vince Lewis with the Phoenix Police Department.
It is obvious, Fatigoni did not intend on being caught when he stormed into the convenience store near 16th Street and Southern Avenue last week.
"But, that's our job as police officers working with the community to break through that," Sgt. Lewis said.
He credits this successful arrest to good detective work, along with a strong response from the community; all of whom unmasked the man Phoenix police believe is responsible for murder, armed robbery and kidnapping.
Fatigoni, was arrested and charged with one count of murder, two counts of kidnapping and three counts of armed robbery.
Phoenix police took Fatigoni into custody at a home last night just down the street from where the crime took place. ABC15 was the only station on scene, capturing the exclusive video of those critical moments.
Police said he first denied any involvement in the crime, but after taking and failing a polygraph test, he confessed.
This is not Fatigoni's first experience with law enforcement. ABC15 found an arrest record that also featured Fatigoni pleading guilty to another armed robbery, as well as a burglary - both in 2011.
Toor's family released the following statement Saturday afternoon:
"On behalf of Amanjeet Singh Toor’s family, we would like to thank the Phoenix Police Department, the local community, and all those involved behind the scenes. We are truly appreciative and grateful for everyone's time and dedication. We are obligated to the Phoenix Police Department and their investigative wing in helping make an arrest of the alleged suspect in such a short span of time, and therefore bringing peace to our family. God Bless.
The Toor Family"
Fatigoni faces charges for three counts of armed robbery, two counts of kidnapping and one count of murder.
