One south Phoenix veteran won a battle with the city officials to install a special crosswalk beacon in his neighborhood.
The beacon sits above the crosswalk on 7th Street and Jones Avenue, which is north of Broadway Road.
Harold Pickett pushed for the "HAWK", High-Intensity Activated Crosswalk, to be installed.
Each one costs about $100,000. Pickett started his campaign to get the HAWK after a friend was hit by a car in the crosswalk last year.
"I'm sure it's going to save lives," Pickett said. "I'm sure it's going to cut down on accidents here."
Just a few weeks ago, ABC15 captured the danger in the area on video, as cars narrowly missed pedestrians on the road.
There are a lot of veterans with disabilities living in the area, who must cross 7th Street to get to the nearest bus stop.
