PHOENIX — A toddler has died after being pulled from a backyard pool near 64th Street and Cactus Road on Tuesday morning.

Phoenix Fire Department officials say a 3-year-old boy was found in the pool unconscious and not breathing, and CPR was started before first responders arrived. He was later pronounced dead after the incident, fire officials said.

It's not known how long the child was in the water.

Fire officials say the family is from out of town and was staying at the home, which is a vacation rental. There was no fence around the pool.

Phoenix police say it is being preliminarily investigated as an accident, but the investigation is underway.
