DPS: Two men shot while driving on L-101

Two men are in the hospital after they were shot while driving on the Loop 101 in the West Valley.

According to the Department of Public Safety, the two men were shot just after 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday while traveling along the Loop 101 (Agua Fria) near Indian School Road.

While the men were traveling northbound in an SUV, the suspects in a grey Honda passenger car became upset with them.

DPS said several shots were fired from the passenger car into the SUV. DPS said there are no indications that those involved in the incidents knew each other. 

After they were hit, they pulled over and called 911. 

The 26-year-old driver of the SUV was shot in the leg. The 20-year-old passenger was shot in the chest. Both men were taken to a local hospital in stable condition.

The suspects are described as white or light skinned Hispanic men in their early 20s.

DPS is investigating this situation as a road rage incident.

This incident comes three months after Leslie Merritt Jr. was arrested for four of the 11 freeway shootings.

No one is in custody for seven of the freeway shootings.
