PHOENIX — An armed robbery suspect who was shot by police overnight has died.
Phoenix police say it began early Friday morning with an armed robbery at an Avondale fast food restaurant, near Dysart and Van Buren.
Officials were able to locate the suspect vehicle near 91st Avenue and Camelback Road where officers conducted a traffic stop.
The driver stopped, however a man inside the vehicle got out and pointed a gun at officers, prompting two Phoenix officers to fire at him.
Police say the man, later identified as 19-year-old Jacob Michael Harris, was taken to the hospital in extremely critical condition but later died. Three other suspects in the vehicle were taken into custody. In an afternoon update, they were identified as Jeremiah Lynn Triplett , 20, Sariah Christine Busani, 20, and a 14-year-old boy.
No officers were injured.
Phoenix police robbery detectives had reportedly been tracking the suspects believed to be responsible for a string of robberies throughout the Valley after conducting surveillance and gathering information.
The three suspects apprehended are all being charged with first degree murder because of the death of Harris and armed robbery.
