ABC15 is obtaining exclusive new information about a little Valley girl who was struck by a Phoenix police cruiser in August of 2016.

According to her grandfather, the little girl is going to physical therapy five days a week. She's improving, but is still unable to walk on her own and has a long road of recovery ahead of her.

Early Tuesday, Phoenix police released a 911 call and body camera video from that night.

As 4-year-old Vanessa was running home from the ice cream truck near 71st Avenue and Indian School Road, an on-duty officer ran her over in what appears to be a terrible accident, according to investigators.

The body camera footage shows the tragedy from different angles, showing the moments Vanessa's family realizes what had happened.

It also captures endearing moments where one neighbor is taking action, trying to bring some peace to the family during a terrible accident.
