A pedestrian is dead after being struck and killed by a car on the freeway in Phoenix.

Interstate 10 eastbound was closed for several hours on Sunday at 51st Avenue after a vehicle hit the pedestrian who was in the roadway, officials said.
The pedestrian was later identified as 26-year-old Damien Martinez. It is unknown why he was walking in the roadway.
A Department of Public Safety spokesperson says there were multiple other crashes in the area following the initial collision.
