One teen is dead after a shooting on Sunday in west Phoenix.

Police say officers were called to the area of 67th Avenue and Baseline Road around 1:35 p.m. in response to a shooting.

According to the police investigation, 14-year-old Jovanny Pelayo and a 15-year-old boy were involved in a drug transaction with four other teenagers.

Pelayo was armed with a stolen handgun and attempted to rob money, drugs and property from 18-year-old Robert Wells, who was with a 16-year-old boy and two other 15-year-old boys.

Wells reportedly shot Pelayo and his 15-year-old accomplice before fleeing the area. Pelayo was pronounced dead at the scene and the other victim is recovering from injuries at the hospital.

Police say witnesses pointed out the vehicle that fled from the scene. Officers pursued the vehicle and stopped them near 63rd Avenue and Broadway Road. All four teens were detained and evidence was collected.

Police found the vehicle had been stolen during a residential burglary.

Wells has reportedly been booked into jail for second-degree murder, attempted second-degree murder and burglary.

The investigation is ongoing.
