Police say a 33-year-old woman was jailed after a deadly crash at a gas station near 35th and Glendale avenues Saturday afternoon.
Officials say a vehicle headed northbound on 35th Avenue around 3 p.m. reportedly tried to brake to avoid hitting another vehicle in the roadway but was not able to slow or stop due to a potential mechanical issue.
The driver's vehicle ran off the roadway and into a gas station parking lot where 34-year-old Sergio Grimaldo was walking. He was struck by the vehicle and taken to the hospital where he died from his injuries.
The vehicle also struck a car parked at a gas pump and a pole. Police say a 32-year-old woman reportedly also suffered minor injuries during the incident.
The driver of the car, 33-year-old Shanika Bennett, was found to be impaired at the time of the crash and booked into jail on a count of manslaughter. She suffered only minor injuries.
The investigation is ongoing.
