Phoenix police are investigating after a security guard shot and killed a man at a Jack-In-The-Box restaurant on Wednesday night.

Officials say they were called to the store near 35th Avenue and Buckeye Road around 7 p.m. by a security guard who had just gotten into a confrontation with another man.

According to police, the guard said a man was refusing to leave the property and threatening him. The guard displayed his handgun while backing away from the man, and the man charged at him. The guard fired his weapon when the man didn't stop.

The man, only identified as being 64 years old, died at the scene.

Police say the 23-year-old guard, who is armed and employed on site, is cooperating with investigators.

Detectives are investigating and the case will be submitted to the County Attorney for review.
