Maricopa County Animal Care and Control is issuing a call for help as their West Valley facility has hit extreme capacity, especially in the case of one type of pup.
Spokesman Jose Miguel said as they looked at the numbers, shelter workers found a disproportionate number of "bully" breeds.
Miguel said it is likely the bull mixes are getting overlooked simply because of their appearance, and not due to their demeanor.

According to MCACC, non-bully breeds spend about four days at the shelter, while bully breeds average a 45-day stay. Miguel said some of the dogs have been there for more than 90 days.
In an effort to help the "bully" breeds get adopted, they have moved "long-timers" into their first three buildings, and starting Wednesday, all adoption fees for those dogs have been waived. Those pups will be available to be taken home for just the $17 licensing fee.
Miguel said the shelter has a Sunday deadline to adopt the animals before they will have to consider other options.
