A pedestrian is dead after being hit by a motorcyclist in west Phoenix early Sunday morning.
Police officers responded to the area of 39th Avenue and Indian School Road just before 1 a.m. Sunday after receiving reports of an accident.
Firefighters arrived at the scene and treated the male pedestrian but he eventually succumbed to his injuries, a police spokeswoman said.
The motorcyclist, an adult male, was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries, officials said.
According to authorities, the motorcyclist was heading west on Indian School Road when he hit the pedestrian who was standing in the road.
No additional information was released and an investigation is ongoing at this time.
Road restrictions are in place from 39th to 43rd avenues on Indian School Road. Drivers are urged to avoid the area at this time.
