A Phoenix fire spokesman says two people were rescued from their car after it became stranded in a flooded area near the Salt River in Tolleson.
Multiple fire departments responded to the scene around 8 p.m. on Wednesday — including crews from Phoenix, Tolleson and Gila River.
The two people became stranded on a section of dry land near 91st and Southern avenues, officials said.
According to a statement from the National Weather Service, between 1:30 a.m. and 4 a.m., water was released from the Granite Reef Dam into the Salt River.

The move was predicted to impact Gilbert and McKellips roads in Mesa, as well as sections in southeast Phoenix and the west Valley, weather officials said.
