Multiple people injured after multi-car accident in Phoenix

Officials are investigating a crash involving multiple cars in Phoenix.

Fire crews were called to 95th Avenue and McDowell Road Saturday night after receiving reports about the accident.

According to authorities, six cars were involved in the accident and five people suffered injuries.

At least two patients had to be extricated from their cars, and a 47-year-old man was taken to a trauma center in serious condition, a Phoenix fire spokesperson said.

Three were transported to the hospital and are in serious condition, but are expected to survive. 

The vehicles suffered significant damage.

No additional information was released but drivers are being urged to avoid the area.

Traffic was closed in the area for several hours but has since reopened.

Tolleson and Phoenix Fire departments are continuing to investigate.
