Officials are investigating after a man says he was struck by a stray bullet in west Phoenix.
Phoenix police said the bullet fell from the sky near 83rd Avenue and Indian School Road just before 3:30 a.m. on Friday.
According to Phoenix police, a man was standing in his backyard when the bullet hit him.
The man took himself to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Law enforcement agencies have reminded residents about Shannon’s Law. The law restricts shooting into the air.
Phoenix police say they average 150 arrests per year for Shannon's Law violations. They ask citizens to stay alert and call 911 if they hear gunfire and can identify its origin.
Shannon's Law is named after a 14-year-old girl who was killed when a bullet fell from the sky on New Year's Eve. Violations are a Class 6 Felonies, and sentences can range from probation to several years in prison.
