A 77-year-old man has been accused of luring a 16-year-old girl for sex.
Phoenix police report that in January, 77-year-old Frederick Navarres Romo made contact with a girl who is 61 years younger, near 51st Avenue and McDowell Road.
During the exchange, Romo identified himself as a retired police officer and asked the girl to have sex with him and to come and live with him at his home.
Romo reportedly offered the girl money and offered to enroll her in a high school, near his home. He allegedly told the girl that he had done this before with another girl her age and that she is now married and living in California.
After the girl had contacted police, Romo continued to call the girl and repeated his offer on a recorded line.
On August 2, the girl, with the assistance of detectives, had a conversation with Romo where he agreed to pick her up near 57th Avenue and Thomas Road.
Romo later arrived at the location and was placed under arrest by officers. Romo has been charged with child prostitution.
