PHOENIX — A 15-year-old boy was shot and killed inside a bathroom at a park in West Phoenix on Thursday night, and police are still looking for a suspect.

Police said the teenager, identified as Sergio Reyes, was dropped off at the park near 83rd Avenue and McDowell Road around 9 p.m. Reyes went into a restroom with another young man before shots were fired, and both came out of the restroom, police said.

"What they were meeting about we are unsure, but we know they met in the bathroom and shots were heard coming from the bathroom," said Phoenix Police Sgt. Maggie Cox.

Reyes was taken to the hospital where he was declared dead.

Police said the suspect, only identified as a Hispanic male between 15 and 20 years old, ran away from the scene.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call Phoenix Police at 602-262-6141 or if they wish to remain anonymous, they can contact Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS or 480-TESTIGO for Spanish.

Scott Beyl has lived in front of the park since 1995.

"I saw the officer working on the young kid, giving him CPR, doing what they could do," he said. "It's very sad to see it happen. Unfortunately, this is not the first time this has happened because about 10 years ago, a girl was shot and killed in this park," he said.
