PHOENIX — Authorities are investigating a shooting on Christmas Day involving an officer with the Phoenix Police Department.
Just after 1:00 a.m., officers were called to an aggravated assault and domestic violence call at a home near 51st Avenue and Thomas Road.
When officers arrived, a 25-year-old man had already taken off and other people at the home were questioned.
They told police the man tried to run over a victim with his vehicle and then rammed a parked van before leaving the area.
Police said they were at the scene when the man returned in his vehicle. He then drove over the sidewalk and into the front yard attempted to hit somebody with the vehicle, according to officials.
Police said that's when an officer pulled out his service weapon and opened fire, striking the man. He was taken to a hospital in stable condition.
On December 29, authorities said the man, identified as 25-year-old Samuel Vasquez, was released from the hospital and booked into jail.
He has been charged with multiple counts of aggravated assault.
No officers were injured.
