A man is dead after a hit-and-run crash in Phoenix early Saturday morning, making it the 49th deadly pedestrian accident in the Valley this year.
Police responded to the area of 19th and Glendale avenues around 1 a.m. after receiving reports of a collision.
According to authorities, a Toyota 4Runner was heading northbound on 19th Avenue when it hit the man who was walking against the light in a crosswalk.
Officials say the driver did leave the scene after the crash and was last seen speeding northbound on 19th Avenue from Dunlap Avenue.
The name of the victim is unknown at this time but officials said he was 49 years old.
The City of Phoenix has forced a task force made up of 10 people to begin looking into the rising number of pedestrian crashes in the city.
