The Phoenix Police Department spent hours working a barricade situation near 35th Avenue and Indian School Road on Wednesday.
Officials said they assisted the Federal Bureau of Investigation in making contact with a suspect, identified as 26-year-old Jason Earl Armstrong, who was wanted in connection with the killing of his wife in North Carolina.
After several hours, officers made entry into the apartment and found Armstrong dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, police said.
