A 22-year-old woman is dead after she was hit by a car in Phoenix overnight along a dangerous stretch of road known to have claimed other victims.

According to Phoenix Police, the woman was crossing Indian School Road near 32nd Avenue mid-block when she was hit by a westbound SUV.

The woman was taken to the hospital and later died from her injuries.

Police say the driver of the SUV stayed at the scene and impairment does not appear to be a factor in the crash.

Officials have not yet identified the woman who was killed.

Earlier this month in the same area, two pedestrians were hit by a hit-and-run driver. The man and woman were said to be crossing Indian School Road mid-block in that case as well.

In another case, a man was hit and killed when he was crossing mid-block in the same area near 35th Avenue and Monterosa Street

The City of Phoenix has been working to make changes to the dangerous intersection

A city spokeswoman told ABC15 they were hoping to have a specialized lighted crosswalk, called HAWK, installed, but she said it could take as long as three years to get the project started. Still, they plan to expedite the construction proposal.

Police say they are also conducting further enforcement in the area regarding pedestrians and dangerous driving.
