Authorities say a suspect is in custody after a deadly stabbing in west Phoenix.
Officers were called to a scene at an apartment complex near 71st Avenue and Indian School Road early Friday morning after receiving reports of two people suffering stab wounds.
Authorities say 21-year-old Cesar Avila got into an altercation with 25-year-old Karsten Boman and another 27-year-old male victim. The altercation happened after a group of men saw Avila breaking into vehicles at an apartment parking lot.
During the fight, Avila stabbed both men and then went into his apartment unit, officials said. The suspect refused to come out of his apartment and a search warrant was issued.
Boman died at the scene and the other unidentified man was taken to the hospital where he remains in serious but stable condition.
Avila allegedly admitted to his involvement in the incident and was charged with 2nd-degree murder.
