Grand Canyon University was placed on a partial lockdown Monday afternoon, according to school officials, after police alerted the school of a suspect search. The lockdown was later lifted shortly before 1 p.m.

Students received a text message alerting them of the lockdown shortly before noon.

School officials said they had closed entrances on the south side of the campus, near Camelback Road, because Phoenix police were searching for at least one suspect that was carrying a rifle nearby.

The Phoenix Police Department said around 11:30 a.m., a man walked into the Phoenix Baptist Hospital with a gun shot wound. He was not cooperating with police, but did tell them he was shot near 22nd Avenue and Bethany Home Road. Around the same time, police also received calls of two men who were running around with a weapon.

Police are searching the area but have not taken anyone into custody.

GCU was given the all clear by police and the school's south entrance was reopened.
