MESA, AZ — Two people died after a motorcycle and a van collided near Signal Butte Road and University Drive Monday.
The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office said just after 12 p.m., a black Harley Davidson, driven by 62-year-old John Rowland, was heading down University Drive at a high rate of speed.
A light blue Toyota Sienna, driven by 69-year-old Kathy Bernhardt, was traveling down 110th Street near the intersection. As Bernhardt tried to turn left, the motorcycle reportedly crashed with the driver's door of the Toyota Sienna.
Authorities said Rowland was pronounced dead at the scene.
Bernhardt was extricated from the van and taken to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead.
Sheriff officials said speed is being investigated as a factor in the incident.
An investigation remains ongoing.
