APACHE JUNCTION, AZ — Apache Junction police say a 3-year-old boy died days after ingesting fentanyl.
The child reportedly ingested at least one fentanyl pill on Thursday, Jan. 25, before he was taken to a hospital by his family. The child was treated with Narcan before being air-lifted to a second hospital where he died days later, on Sunday, Jan. 29.
It’s not known exactly where the child came in contact with the street-grade/illicit fentanyl found in his system. It reportedly occurred while was traveling between Apache Junction, Mesa and Maricopa County islands.
Police are working with other departments including Pinal County Attorney’s Office during the investigation.
No arrests have been made.
