The Chandler Police Department says they’re looking for a man accused of trying to grab a 5-year-old girl Wednesday afternoon.
The incident happened in a neighborhood near the Loop 101 and Elliot Road.
According to police, the girl says a man in a black van or SUV tried to grab her by the backpack while outside with her 11-year-old brother
The boy reportedly punched the man's hand before he took off, police said.
The kids' great-grandma Myna Gleed explained how proud she is of the young boy.
"I said, 'You're a hero — you saved your sister's life! You got to know how proud we are of you,'" she said.
Gleed said she immediately contacted authorities to prevent the suspect from targeting other kids.
"I said 'Call the police,'" she explained. "Somebody's got to get the word out there that there's predators out there for the children at bus stops."
The suspect is described as being 5’10"-5’11" in height. Police have not said what race the suspect is.
The children were not injured during the incident.
