CHANDLER, AZ — A 19-year-old was booked into jail after nearly hitting an Arizona Department of Public Safety trooper inside a road closure and leading officials on a pursuit.

DPS says the incident occurred Saturday around 5 p.m. when a vehicle reportedly entered a construction closure area on eastbound I-10 near the US-60 transition. The driver, 19-year-old Luz Areli Lamas, was reportedly traveling at a high rate of speed and nearly struck a trooper's vehicle.

The woman continued driving, failing to yield to the trooper's lights and sirens. Stop sticks were unsuccessfully deployed before the driver tried to hit another trooper's vehicle near I-10 and Ray Road.

The vehicle reportedly struck a median while trying to turn westbound on Ray Road and officials had to use a Taser to take the driver into custody.

Lamas was booked into jail on charges of DUI drugs, resisting arrest, endangerment and unlawful flight.
