CHANDLER, AZ — A man is facing multiple charges after he reportedly shot his ex-girlfriend and a child at a Chandler home late Monday night.
Court records say Christoper West had entered his ex-girlfriend’s home and was carrying a semi-automatic handgun. While inside her home, West shot his ex-girlfriend and her child. Before authorities arrived, West left the scene.
After being involved in a crash on Loop 101, West fled the scene of the crash and ran to a neighborhood nearby.
Two Arizona Department of Public Safety troopers tried to apprehend West who allegedly shot at the troopers from a distance.
The troopers did not suffer any injuries but West was able to flee once again. West was soon arrested near the area where he first shot at the troopers, according to court records.
Authorities arrived at the home in Chandler to find West’s ex-girlfriend and her child with gunshot wounds.
West is believed to have entered the home by breaking the glass sliding door which authorities consequently found broken glass around the doorway.
Police say the victims identified West as the shooter and added that West did not live at the home where the shooting happened.
West, who was in possession of a semi-automatic handgun at the time of his arrest, faces multiple charges that include aggravated assault, first-degree burglary, and aggravated assault on a peace officer with a deadly weapon.
The area of Loop 101 and US 60 was shut down for several hours due to the law enforcement situation.
