CHANDLER — Parents of students at Santan Junior High School can expect a higher police presence dropping off and picking up pupils today after police "learned of an alleged online threat directed to Santan Jr. High School" last night.
According to Chandler police, they learned of an alleged online threat directed toward the junior high school, but upon further investigation, officers discovered the "actual text of the threat didn't mention Santan Jr. High."
Chandler police say there is no threat to the school, but parents and students should expect a police presence on campus throughout the day.
Chandler Unified School District issued the following response regarding the alleged threat:
"Dear Parents and Guardians,
To follow up on our previous message, Chandler Police Department is continuing to investigate the possible threat that was shared on social media and forwarded by a parent of a Santan Junior High student.
The message was not site-specific and did not mention any school by name. CUSD and SJHS have a zero tolerance policy toward any message or threat to staff and students and will work cooperatively with law enforcement to pursue prosecution in these matters.
There will be an added security and police presence on campus on Wednesday. If you have relevant information about this or any other activity or conversation that could present a safety issue for our students and community, we encourage you to inform the school administration, classroom teacher, or any member of the school staff.
Sincerely, BJ Kowalinski Principal, Santan Junior High School Amy O'Neal Principal, Santan Elementary School"
