The owners of Phoenix kennel where more than 20 dogs died of heat exhaustion in 2014 will each serve 23 days in jail, as ordered in their plea agreement.
Jesse Todd Hughes and Malesia Maurine Hughes also agreed to not acquiring any new animals or operating or working in any boarding facilities for animals in the future. They each are also required to perform 230 hours of community service, three years on probation and write an apology to be read in court for the victims.
The Hughes entered guilty pleas for one county of facilitation to commit fraudulent schemes and artifices and one count of cruelty to animals
