An infant is awake and breathing after his mother performed CPR shortly after finding him floating in a pool Wednesday afternoon, according to the Gilbert Fire Department.

A spokesperson with Gilbert Fire said the boy went missing for one or two minutes and his mother found him floating in the pool. The boy was reportedly having trouble breathing so the mother began to perform CPR.

The boy has been taken to the hospital as a precaution and is awake and breathing, said Gilbert Fire.

The mother is being commended for starting life-saving treatment prior to paramedics arriving.
