GILBERT, AZ — Gilbert police have taken a man into custody after they say he shot and killed his stepfather on Christmas Day.

At about 4:30 p.m. Sunday, Gilbert police officers were called to a residence near Recker and Warner roads for reports of a shooting.

Gilbert police say an 80-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity has not been released.

Police say after taking statements from witnesses, they arrested the man's stepson for the murder.

Authorities allege that the man shot his stepfather after returning from a family dinner.

The investigation into the shooting continues.
