GILBERT — A 67-year-old man is dead after being struck by a vehicle in Gilbert Sunday morning.
Gilbert police say the man was walking on Williams Field Road near Granite Street when he was struck by a vehicle traveling westbound.
Annette Vasquez was driving by just seconds after the crash.
"I just ran to his side and I kneeled down, and my instincts just went to him. I started giving him CPR the best I could - just compression's, but in my mind, I knew he wasn't in the best shape."
A nurse herself, Vasquez knows she couldn't bring the man back, but she tried everything she could.
"It's just in my nature to help and I felt, I just felt like I couldn't do anything for him."
The roadway from Val Vista to Palomino Creek Drive was closed for several hours while police investigated.
The roadway was reopened around 4:30 p.m.
Williams Field Rd closed from Val Vista west to Palomino Creek Dr for at least the next four hours due to a fatality pedestrian vs vehicle collision investigation
