A Gilbert man accused of shooting and killing his roommate and her daughter’s boyfriend in October was released from the hospital Monday.

Matthew Crain, who was shot several times by officers is back in police custody, officials said. He is charged with two counts of first-degree murder.

Police said officers shot Crain at Val Vista and Williams Field roads after he ignored their commands.

The victims, 33-year-old Stacey Steward and 17-year-old Alex Tamborski, were found dead of gunshot wounds in Crain’s home near Lindsay and Ray roads, not far away from where he was arrested.
