Police are investigating after a subject with a gun allegedly fired a shot into the air near the Banner Gateway Medical Center in Gilbert. Gilbert police say one person is now in custody.
The incident happened Thursday around 1:30 p.m. in the area of the hospital near Higley and Baseline roads.
According to Gilbert police, there was never an active shooter. Gilbert police responded to the hospital after receiving a report of a man with a gun. Police located the subject with a gun in the hospital parking lot.
When officers approached the subject, he walked away and fired his gun into the air. The subject eventually gave up his weapon and was taken into custody.
Banner Gateway Hospital was placed on lockdown during the incident.

Gilbert police confirm no one was injured during the incident.
Higley Road was closed during the incident but has since reopened. The Higley off-ramps from the US 60 were also but closed but are back open.
Officials with Banner Gateway Medical Center issued the following statement:
A situation occurred this afternoon near the campus of Banner Gateway Medical Center and Banner MD Anderson Cancer Center in Gilbert. An individual with a weapon was taken into custody by the Gilbert Police Department in the parking lot at the medical office building on the campus. No injuries occurred. As a result, Banner Gateway/Banner MD Anderson went on lockdown for a brief period. An all-clear was given and Banner Gateway/Banner MD Anderson are returning to normal operations.
